To lauch the Mentoring Collaborative, SPARC has initiated a partnership with Men Unmasked Unlimited (MUM), a Non-Profit (501(c)3) organization whose primary goal is to provide mentoring and positive youth development programs and services to at risk male youths residing in single parent family homes.
MUM was founded in April of 2002 and officially established as a 501(c)3, under the National Heritage Foundation, later that year. Since its inception, MUM has provided mentoring services to more than 100 single parent families.
The Men UnMasked (MUM) Mentoring Program is a comprehensive mentoring and positive youth development program for male youth residing in homes headed by single mothers. Utilizing a combination of one on one and group mentoring as well as character, leadership and life skills development workshops, MUM provides the complete mentoring and positive youth development experience to young boys aged 5-19.
Building on its success, MUM and SPARC have developed an approach that takes traditional mentoring programs to the next level. The program design used by the SPARC/MUM collaborative is designed to address the needs of the entire single parent family. MUM provides mentoring services while parent and comprehensive wrap around family services are coordinated and provided by SPARC.
During group sessions, boys (mentees) participate in leadership and character development workshops while mothers meet at the same location but in a different room across the hall learning how to address the challenge of successfully raising a male child as a single mother.
Currently classes for mothers (Got Boys) and sons (MUM) meet on the third Saturday of every month at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church located at 182 Hunter Street, Norcross, GA 30071.
