The SPARC Kids Academy has a unique approach:
The program utilizes the skills and services of local high school students to provide tutoring and assistance to SPARC kids. SPARC currently partners with Meadowcreek High School and Greater Atlanta Christian School to provide opportunities for high school students seeking community service hours. In turn, students are able to complete those required hours while also encouraging academic achievement at the elementary school level for SPARC kids.
In addition to student support, SPARC kids also receive the benefit of assistance from certified teachers from both high schools who volunteer in the program. As the high school students became more engaged through working with SPARC kids, their teachers also wanted to reach out, provide support, and volunteer to students in need.
SPARC kids enjoy a rigorous daily schedule. Students who do not have homework are provided with age– and skill–appropriate worksheets designed to increase skills and maintain learning. Tutoring runs from 3-4:30 pm, followed by snack and free time. Students who require additional assistance are able to utilize the entire three hours to ensure they achieve their goals.
The upcoming summer program will see SPARC kids focusing heavily on academics each morning, while the afternoons will be filled with recreational and cultural activities. Several field trips will be provided to expose the kids to engaging attractions in and around the Metro Atlanta area.
